  • Cheryl Bower, President & Founder

    Cheryl is the fiercely passionate creator of Voices Rock Canada©. Her drive, energy and positive attitude have made VRC a success from the initial pilot project in April, 2016.

    Cheryl is a life-long musical enthusiast and has done extensive fundraising in service to children, which include The Hospital for Sick Children, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Toronto Children’s Breakfast Program and Nunavut clothing drive.

    She has taken part in numerous stage and music projects over the past 35 years, including appearing on stage as a soloist at Koerner Hall (Toronto) and Carnegie Hall (New York, New York).

    Cheryl has a keen understanding of the benefits of music in people’s lives. She strongly believes in the power of music and the building of communities. Her motto for Voices Rock Canada is “Creating musical communities, one note, one song and one person at a time.”

  • Nancy Silverman, Executive Director

    A profoundly musical individual, Nancy holds a BFA in Music Theatre Performance from Sheridan College (2007), and has spent many years performing on stages across Canada, the US, on television and at sea. She is a multi-instrumentalist, a singer-songwriter, and can occasionally be found performing her original songs on stages around Toronto.

    Nancy is dedicated to education, and has spent the last 13 years teaching yoga classes and workshops (RYT 500hr) in Canada, the UK, and India (@SilvermanYoga). She is also a self-appointed “Kombucha Brewmaster” and has led workshops in Toronto teaching over 500 students how to brew their own!(@KombuchaQueenNancy). She is a voice coach, a Performance Workshop facilitator, and encourages her students to “be brave!” And surprise themselves with how powerful they can be.

    Nancy has 14 years of administrative experience, and specializes in small business management, business expansion, streamlining back-end processes, and developing a strong online presence. She is also an entrepreneur, and was featured on CBC’s The National during the pandemic for her “COVID-19 survival project.” Nancy considers herself a “Jane of all trades” and is excited to be bringing her wide array of passions to Voices Rock for her second year running!

  • Anthony Bastianon, Artistic Director

    Driven by musical excellence and endless energy, Anthony leads the members of Voices Rock Canada, to new heights in musical performance. His work as a music director, conductor, pianist, composer, arranger, teacher and producer has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years. His versatility has brought him opportunities to work with pop singers such as Chantal Kreviazuk, Dan Hill, and Josh Groban; music theatre icons such as Andrea Martin and Michael Burgess; and countless superb local and international musicians.

    An award-winning musician and composer, Anthony has been the musical director of over 200 theatre productions and has composed music in all genres. With a Masters Degree in Education, he keeps close ties to working with young people whenever possible through his work as founder of Theatre Atoms and as a faculty member at Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Performance Program.

    Anthony encourages creativity, inspires excellence, and motivates the VRC choir members to find enjoyment and passion for music.

  • Elise Letourneau, Choir Director (Ottawa)

    Elise Letourneau is a multiple award-winning composer, and an accomplished songwriter, multi-instrumentalist performer, arranger, and educator. An associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre, her works blur the lines between classical, jazz, and popular music, and her compositions have been performed internationally. She is currently writing a multi-movement choral work about the unique ecosystem of Point Pelee and Essex County.

    Elise maintains an active performance schedule as a solo artist, with The Fieldown Singers, and with Glamour Profession (a Steely Dan tribute band). She teaches composition, piano, voice, flute, and ukulele at Alcorn Music Studios, and she is the director of the Ottawa Singer-Songwriter Camp. In addition to Voices Rock Medicine, she directs Vox Eclectica Women's+ Choir, and she founded and directed Canada’s first community jazz choir, Capital Vox. She is on the music faculty at Carleton University. She has released 6 CDs and 3 MP3 collections.

    Elise is a graduate of Berklee College of Music (Boston MA), and earned a M.Ed. specializing in creative arts and learning at Lesley College (Cambridge MA). She lives in Ottawa ON. www.eliseletourneau.com

  • Matthew Campbell, Choir Director (Kingston)

    Originally from Oakville, ON, Matthew Campbell has worked as a performer, musician, and music director across Canada. Graduating from Sheridan College in 2002 with a degree in Music Theatre Performance, his performance career included multiple regional theatres and six seasons with The Charlottetown Festival. He’s had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Tom Cochrane, Sarah Harmer, Alfie Zappacosta, and Rita McNeil, among others. As a singer/songwriter, he has released two albums or original material, a self titled debut in 2006 and Rock Middle in 2019. He is currently a secondary school teacher in Kingston, ON, as well as a graduate student at Queen’s University. He is thrilled to work with Voices Rock and support this amazing group of singers.

  • Sef Wood, Assistant Music Director (Toronto)

    Sef thrilled to join Voices Rock Canada as the Assistant Music Director. With a strong background in music education within Toronto school boards and a history of fostering musical talent in various settings, he is committed to nurturing voices and helping them reach their full potential.

    He has worked as a vocal teacher and choir director at multiple arts schools, including Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, where he led a remarkable mass choir and orchestra performance of the Carmina Burana, and Fr. John Redmond Secondary School and Regional Arts program where his choir achieved a silver medal at the National Music Competition. Beyond the classroom, he has also run smaller choirs, music directed musicals, and taught music and voice courses at several arts camps. He currently serves as Head of the Arts at an alternative high school for refugees and newcomers to Canada, where he teaches music and voice, sharing the power of music as a means of cultural integration and self-expression. Sef is excited to join forces with Voice Rock Canada, and is looking forward to working alongside talented individuals of all ages to help them discover their voices and the joy of singing.

  • Troy Huizinga, Production Manager (Ottawa & Kingston)

    Troy Huizinga is an accomplished musician, songwriter, and producer from Ottawa, Ontario. His recorded works have received significant airplay on mainstream radio nationwide and garnered multiple awards, including two Canadian Folk Music Awards. A veteran of the live stage, Troy has entertained audiences everywhere, from the National Arts Centre to Australian festival stages, Nunavut dance halls, east coast pubs, and outdoor cultural events in the Rocky Mountains.

    Troy is also a passionate music educator, earning "Best Music and Drama Coach" at the Ottawa Awards in 2023, and again in 2024.

  • Matthew Yipchuck, Social Media Manager

    Matthew is an actor and online content creator with a passion for visual storytelling. As a director, his work includes short films, web series’ and various onstage productions. In his spare time, Matthew is an amateur Toy Photographer and also produces video essays focusing on film history, pop culture and everything in between . You can find his photography on Instagram @yipchuck, and watch his videos on his YouTube channel ‘Teacup For One’. He is thrilled to be working with with VRC!
